Cape Agulhas

cape agulhas
Cape Agulhas takes its name from the Portuguese word for "needle" after seafarers arrived on the shore and noticed that their compass pointed straight north with no deviation. It is renowned as the southernmost point in Africa and is officially where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Offering a picturesque rocky landscape, there are numerous shipwrecks that have occured off the coast and attest to the stormy seas. Those who buy property here are guaranteed a blissful seaside life. One of the main attractions is the lighthouse, which is still in use today, despite the modern satellite navigation systems that ships now have in place. Pasella Spookdraai roete. Bredasdorp

cape agulhas
Where Cape Agulhas is fast-becoming one of South Africa's premier tourist destinations,Bredasdorp is primarily an agricultural region and lies in a lush and fertile valley, producing mostly wool, wheat and dairy. The administrative centre of the Overberg, Bredasdorp is also home to the Heuningberg Nature Reserve, famous for its indigenous fynbos and lilies. With quite a close-knit community, the properties for sale in the area are mostly farms and smallholdings.

Struisbaai

cape agulhas
Struisbaai is a coastal village in the Overberg that boasts the longest stretch of white sand coastline in the Southern Hemisphere, extending an unbelievable 8km. The fishermen's cottages at Hotagterklip have been declared national monuments and are often featured in the paintings of South African artists. The beautiful surrounding landscape and the ideal seaside lifestyle offered in these parts make Struisbaai, together with the neighbouring communities of Hotagterklip and Molshoop, a popular choice for holiday property investment along the coastline up to Cape Agulhas.

Arniston

cape agulhas
Arniston is a small seaside settlement in the Overberg region on the Cape South coast, close to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa. Prior to the loss of the Arniston, it was known as Waenhuiskrans, an Afrikaans name meaning literally "Wagon house cliff", after a local sea cave large enough to accommodate a wagon and a span of oxen. At first only a fishing community, Arniston has become a holiday destination and its hinterland a region for viticulture. The fishing village, characterized by its lime-washed and thatched houses, remains unspoiled and has been declared a national monument in its entirety. Fishermen still go to sea in boats of the style that would have been familiar to locals in the early nineteenth century, although now under contract to larger commercial enterprises. Whale watching is a popular tourist activity. The Arniston Hotel is a popular tourist destination that looks out over the ocean. The closest major town is Bredasdorp, 24 kilometers (15 mi) to the north. The Overberg Test Range is situated adjacent to the town.
